Academic libraries and university museums share many constituent elements that makes closer cooperation desirable

They share the same patrons but at different stages of their lives; therefore a common goal can be smoothing the age-related differences, becoming a landmark in the instructional landscape in order to meet the information needs of a multifaceted society, in particular by creating opportunities to increase the leanings toward hard sciences.

Preservation practices and the need of enhancing the collections are common, as well as the education background of the staff, the requirements to catalog the assets and the thought about it. In the same way they share troubles, namely the rationalization of expenditure that hits hard and the educational agencies of an area that remain scattered under various authorities make the working cooperation hard. In addition the recruitment policy is sometimes not wise.

Sharing so many characteristics lead to understand each other, it follows that cooperation is important and due, at least within the same university, to merge experiences and create integrated projects

The field of the collaboration that we identified here at UNIMORE has been experienced by the library staff with lessons on specific issues such as the use of databases in order to organize exhibitions, with training workshops on information skills ( Infoskill ) essential for setting bibliographies accompanying activities.

Other outlooks invest digitization, where we can join the forces to take part in European projects (Horizon 2020). Moreover, the experience of libraries in the field of copyright on texts and images is useful in organizing online exhibitions and the expert use of metadata is involved in the deposit on portals such as Europeana.

These activities are dictated by the need to adapt to the current values of the libraries’ & museums’ collections, to return to citizens the assets they gave us, making them exploitable even outside of academic circles. At the same time the popularity and acknowledgement by the people are the best guarantee of the Return of Investment for Government bodies of an institution .

This intervention is accompanied by a short video clip presented by an author and by a prototype of visual release with the comment of the designer.
